A landrace breed developed over centuries by shepherds in the western Italian Alps (Piedmont) to manage sheep and cattle in mountainous terrain. Valued for its hardiness and working ability, the breed is undergoing official recognition by the Italian Kennel Club (ENCI). Also known as the Pastore d'Oropa.
