Medium-sized, sturdy spitz-type dog with a thick profuse double coat and fox-like features, originally bred for herding reindeer in arctic conditions by the Sami people
History
Ancient spitz breed developed by the indigenous Sami people of Lapland to herd and guard reindeer in Arctic conditions. Nearly extinct after WWII but successfully restored by dedicated Finnish breeders, officially recognized by Finnish Kennel Club in 1945
