Developed on São Miguel Island in the Azores, Portugal. Origins linked to extinct Terceira Dog and molosser types brought by early settlers. Served for centuries as exceptional cattle herding and farm guardian dog, with first written standard appearing in 1984. Also known as Cão Fila de São Miguel.
